“Wow,
look at him go.” Chris said.
“Any
idea what he’s doing?” Jen asked. She
cupped her hands over her eyes like a pair of binoculars. It didn’t do much good, but she still felt
the need to do it.
“Running
around aimlessly.” Chris replied.
“Well,
yeah, I can see that. But he has to have
a purpose. I mean, It’s Dave. He never does anything for no reason.”
“Looks
pretty aimless to me. Hold on, I’ll
check.” He held his hand to his mouth
and yelled, “Hey Dave! What’re you doing?”
Dave
didn’t stop running. He simply looked at
the two observers as he ran in erratic, aimless directions.
“Running!” He called back.
“Why
are you running?”
“Don’t
know! Felt like it!”
Chris
looked at Jen with a smug expression. “See?
Told you it was aimless.”
“Oh
come on.” Jen huffed. “There has to be a
reason. That guy never runs. Hang on, let me try.” She mimicked Chris’ action by holding her
hands around her mouth. “No really? Why are you running?” She yelled.
“I don’t
know! It just seemed like a good idea!”
Dave answered.
“You
know what? I think I’m going to go down
and join him.” Chris said.
“What? Why?” Jen asked.
“Don’t
know. Seems like fun, I guess.”
Jen was
about to say something, but Chris was already in motion. He ran around, changing directions without rhyme
or reason, just like Dave was doing. Jen
grumbled at the antics of the guys. Had
they been in high school, she would have disavowed them as friends right then
and there. As it was, they were not in
high school, and Jen had little time to find new friends at the drop of a
hat. No, the two guys would have to do.
Even if they were acting crazy.
Dave
ran and suddenly stopped, turned around, and ran in a completely different
direction. This new course brought him
directly in line with Chris. Chris did
not have time to avoid his friend, and the two slammed into each other.
Jen ran
down to check on their well being. She
fished her phone out of her pocket, ready to call for help at a moment’s
notice. The two guys had detangled
themselves by the time she reached them, and they were simply lying on the
ground, panting.
“Are
you two okay?” She asked.
“Yeah,
fine.” Chris said.
“I’ve
been better.” Dave answered. “I’ve been
worse, but definitely better.”
Jen
sighed in relief. She was not looking
forward to telling an EMT about that injury.
“So, are you two going to stand up?”
‘Nah.”
“Nope.”
“Of
course not.”
“You
should join us.” Chris said.
“What?”
“Yeah,
just lie down. It’s relaxing.”
“Speak
for yourself. I’m laying on a rock.”
Dave said.
“So
move.” Jen suggested.
“Meh. It’s a small rock.”
Jen
looked from Chris to Dave and back again.
She shrugged her shoulders and gave in.
Like Dave, she also chose a spot occupied by a small rock. Unlike Dave, she shifted her position so that
she was not laying on a rock. Then she
simply looked up at the sky like her friends were.
“So,
what now?” She asked.
“Stay
here until we get bored?” Chris suggested.
“Yeah,
that sounds about right.” Dave answered.

I guess sometimes you just need to run around like an idiot. Well, not like an idiot, but you get the idea. Or maybe you don't. Whatever. Just...just run around aimlessly or something and see how it goes. I mean, if you really want to.
